Copyright guide: protecting your original work online

Knowledge Base

Reference notes for the small decisions that keep a rights investigation accurate.

The reported URL now redirects

Keep the original URL and capture the redirect destination with a new timestamp. Review the new location before adding it to any request. An expired page alone does not establish who removed it or why.

Several teams reported the same page

Compare the target URL, work and recipient. Attach the duplicate observation to the existing case where appropriate. Keep genuinely distinct rights claims and recipients identifiable.

A distributor supplies a new license

Check the effective date, asset, territory and channel against the observation. Record the reviewer and decision. If a report has already gone out, keep a copy of any correction sent to the recipient.

A platform asks for more detail

Answer against its existing reference. Pair the exact target with the original example and address each missing item in turn. Retain the follow-up with the first submission.
