Copyright Protection
Connect each reported copy to the original work, its owner and the permission that governs its use.
Talk to an expertEstablish the original
Start with a master file, publication record or authoritative source. Record who created the work and who currently controls the rights. Commissioned and collaborative projects often require a closer look at the agreement.
/ 02Review the use in context
Compare the original with the reported page. Look at what was reproduced, how it appears and whether the publisher has permission. For a clip, compare source and upload timestamps; for a photo, identify distinctive details that survive cropping. Resolve questions about permissions before acting.
/ 03Keep the history together
Retain the comparison, approval and correspondence under one reference. If the same work appears elsewhere, the next reviewer can see which rights were confirmed and what changed.
